Banco de Portugal warned on September 10 about the activity of an entity that uses the designations "Formiga Crédito" and "Formiga Crédit", which operates through the website formiga-pt.com. According to the official statement from the supervisor, this institution is not authorized to grant credit, to exercise credit intermediation or to provide consulting services regarding credit contracts in Portugal.
The BdP clarifies that the entity does not have authorization to carry out financial activities reserved for institutions subject to its supervision. The alert specifically refers to the lack of authorization to operate in the national territory, and does not constitute an assessment of any financial conditions that may be proposed.
The supervisor recommends that consumers consult the official registers available on its website, which contains the list of entities authorized to carry out credit granting and financial intermediation activities. In the case of credit intermediaries, the activity depends on prior authorization and registration with Banco de Portugal.
The Banking Customer Portal contains both the list of authorized institutions and alerts regarding unauthorized activities, constituting the official reference for anyone wishing to verify the status of an entity before proceeding with any loan request.
