The Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC) analyzed in detail TVI's program "Dois às 10" after receiving more than four thousand viewer complaints. The regulator concluded that the station and presenter Cristina Ferreira inadequately addressed a case of sexual violence, contributing to downplaying the gravity of the crime.
According to the ERC, the way the case was handled on the program led to the revictimization of the young woman who suffered the rape. The editorial approach was considered harmful, for not respecting the fundamental principles of protection for victims of sexual crimes.
The regulator understands that TVI and the team responsible for the program failed in their duty to treat victims of sexual violence with dignity and sensitivity. The ERC's decision underscores the importance of media addressing these topics with due care and respect.
