Cargo ship catches fire at port in eastern China

At least 25 people died in a fire that broke out on Thursday on a cargo ship that was docked at the port of Qingdao, in Shandong province, in eastern China. The fire occurred aboard the Ocean Melody, a cargo ship flying the flag of Liberia, which was carrying 42 people. According to Chinese state television CCTV, 17 people were taken off the ship and five were hospitalized. The incident occurred during port operations at the port of Qingdao, one of China's main seaports.

The Jagt family, from Senoia, Georgia (USA), discovered that their 19-year-old cat Annie was still alive more than a year after being left at a veterinary hospital to be euthanized in February 2025. The owner Brian Jagt filed a police report after learning that an employee at the Senoia Veterinary Hospital did not perform the procedure on the animal. After the complaint, the hospital reimbursed the family and Annie was finally euthanized on August 13.

The GNR of Valongo arrested this morning a 30-year-old man in the act while attempting to rob a residence in Campo. The individual was known for stealing agricultural products, such as potatoes, which he then sold at prices well below market rates. A bicycle and a truck battery stolen on the same night were seized during the arrest. The suspect was heard at the Court of Valongo and awaits trial on bail, with the precautionary measure of identity statement and residence order.
