The luso-Angolan artist and writer Grada Kilomba presents in Sintra the exhibition "The Bottom of the World", which includes 18 pieces of wood fallen on the ground, representing 18 symbolic bodies. The installation invites visitors to reflect on silenced stories and submerged memories.
With this work, Kilomba formulates a central philosophical question: "What would the bottom of the sea tell us tomorrow, if emptied of water today?" The question refers to what remains hidden in the depths and to the possibility of revealing what is usually not visible.
The exhibition is part of the EGEAC festival in Sintra and runs until early 2025. Kilomba is recognized for her work at the intersection of art, literature and critical theory, frequently focused on issues of memory, colonialism and identity.
