OAB asks Gonet not to act in case of messages between Moraes and Vorcaro already suspended by Fachin

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) presented a filing to the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Edson Fachin, requesting that the attorney general of Brazil, Paulo Gonet, refrain from acting in a petition pending before the Court involving messages exchanged between Minister Alexandre de Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro. OAB argues that Gonet was personally called to provide clarifications about facts related to the case, which would compromise his impartiality.

The case in question is a petition reported by Minister André Mendonça that was suspended by Fachin's decision last Wednesday. The president of the Court defined that the report will be analyzed by the full court on the 15th. Gonet also appears in the document supposedly talking to Vorcaro through a lawyer.

If OAB's request is granted, Gonet will be prevented from speaking during the trial, "without prejudice to the regular performance of the Federal Public Ministry by his legal substitute," as the entity stated. In practice, this means another authority will assume the position of the Federal Public Ministry in this specific proceeding.
