Distributor Europa Filmes, responsible for the feature film "Dark Horse," a biopic of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has decided to postpone setting a release date for the film in theaters. The company's CEO, Wilson Feitosa, stated that it would not be "responsible" to put the production on screen while there is a risk of a judicial injunction against the screening.
The future of the film gained new uncertainty after the Federal Police launched an operation to investigate suspicions involving the financing of the film. The production, which had already faced postponements, is now on hold while the investigations proceed.
According to Feitosa, the distributor is not currently working with a new release forecast. The internal assessment is that any decision about the film's theatrical release first depends on a scenario where there is no risk of questions or judicial measures that could interrupt its screening.
Until the situation is resolved, Europa Filmes' guidance is not to proceed with the release. "The film's release will have to be free from possible impediments," the executive declared, acknowledging that it is still not possible to predict how events will unfold.
