The lack of health professionals, the reduced coverage by family doctor and the obstacles to the development of pediatrics were the main concerns identified during a two-day visit by the bastonário of the Order of Doctors to the Alentejo Coast. The representative of the Order of Doctors was in the region to take stock of the current situation of healthcare available to the local population. The visit allowed for an on-site assessment of the difficulties faced both by professionals and by users of the region. These issues reveal significant challenges in access to adequate healthcare for the inhabitants of the Alentejo Coast.

Teachers will have the majority of votes to elect school principals

The Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, announced that teachers will have more than 50% of the votes in the election of school principals, in an ongoing review of the School Autonomy and Governance Regime. Currently, principals are elected by the General Council, where the sum of votes from teachers and teaching staff cannot exceed 50%. The new Director's Statute will be approved by the end of the year and will include a salary increase for those holding management positions. On the eve of the start of the 2026/2027 school year, Fernando Alexandre also revealed other Government priorities, such as the revision of the Teaching Career Statute, reducing bureaucracy, and implementing digital tools, including the Digital Education Counter and the Digital Biographical Record of teachers.
