Portugal can create three global 'deep tech' champions, Porto Business School argues

Expresso10 September 2026 at 14:00

Porto Business School argues that Portugal has the potential to create three world-leading companies in the "deep tech" sector, deep-base technologies that require advanced research and high-impact innovation.

According to the institution, the main obstacles to developing this sector in the country are the lack of capital, the shortage of specialized talent, and the reduced demand from the public sector.

Despite these challenges, the business school believes Portugal has the potential and capacity to develop globally prominent technology companies.

The analysis comes in the context of an effort to identify and leverage the areas where the country can compete internationally in the advanced technology market.
