Botafogo announces signing of Hakim Ziyech

oglobo10 September 2026 at 14:06

Botafogo announced on Thursday the signing of midfielder Hakim Ziyech, 33 years old. The Moroccan player, with stints at Chelsea-ENG and Ajax-NED, signed a contract with the black-and-white club until 2028. He arrived in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday and was received with a big celebration by fans at the airport.

Ziyech arrived at Botafogo after terminating his contract with Wydad Casablanca, a club from his home country, Morocco. In Moroccan football, the midfielder accumulated 16 matches, with nine goals and two assists. The clash with the newly arrived management of Wydad, which wanted to renegotiate his contract to reduce his salary, was what motivated his departure from the club.

Ziyech's salary at Botafogo is around R$ 750 thousand. The club celebrated the signing on social media, highlighting the union of two stories in one star. The player was born in the Netherlands but has Moroccan nationality.

French Federation withdraws support for Infantino's re-candidacy

The French Football Federation decided, unanimously, to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino's re-candidacy for the FIFA presidency. The federation justifies the decision for two main reasons: for being one of the founding members of the entity and for the high place it occupies in the world football ranking. This decision represents a significant departure from the incumbent president, who is seeking a third term at the head of the organization that governs world football.
