The black dress that became known as the "Revenge Dress," worn by Princess Diana, will be auctioned by Sotheby's in New York on December 9. This will be the first time in nearly three decades that the piece will be offered at auction. The estimate is that the garment will sell for between $150,000 and $300,000, equivalent to approximately R$770,000 to R$1.5 million.
The piece was created by designer Christina Stambolian and is made of silk. Diana wore the dress in June 1994 during a Vanity Fair party at the Serpentine Gallery in London. The design features off-the-shoulder sleeves, a fitted silhouette, and a deep neckline.
The princess paired the dress with a pearl choker, red nails, and matching lipstick. The resulting look became one of Diana's most iconic images, helping to establish her as one of the greatest style icons of the 20th century.
