Cardiovascular health may be linked to oral health, according to warnings from the American Heart Association. This association warned that dental problems, such as periodontitis, may be associated with heart complications, making oral health an important factor in the prevention of heart diseases.
A dental clinic located in Benfica, in Lisbon, is conducting oral screenings specifically directed at women. The objective of these screenings is to detect cases of periodontitis, a gum infection that may have repercussions on the overall health of the body.
The initiative arises in the context of growing scientific evidence linking oral health to cardiovascular health. By identifying gum problems early, the aim is to reduce the risk of heart complications in the screened women.
This campaign is being reported by the Olhares de Lisboa portal, which highlights the importance of looking beyond traditional factors, such as physical exercise and diet, in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
