Jornal do Algarve10 September 2026 at 14:03

The Local Health Unit of Algarve will promote, on September 15th, between 10am and 12pm, an online seminar dedicated to the theme "Artificial Intelligence in the NHS and Health". The event comes in a context marked by high operational pressure, resource scarcity, population aging, increased clinical complexity and the need for greater efficiency in health services.

According to the organizers, Artificial Intelligence is assuming an increasingly relevant role in the National Health Service, with direct impact on the organization of services, on support for clinical and management decisions, on data processing and on improving care pathways. The facilitating team explains that AI can constitute an important tool to strengthen the response capacity of health institutions, provided it is used in a safe, ethical, transparent manner and aligned with citizens' rights, data protection, cybersecurity and professional responsibility.

The objective of the seminar is to promote literacy, critical reflection and institutional alignment on the opportunities, risks and conditions for the use of AI in healthcare context. The confirmed speakers include Rui Duarte (internal auditor and former RCN of ULS Algarve), Paulo Simões (ULS Algarve), Pedro Valente (ULS Santa Maria), Henrique Martins (former president of SPMS and Professor at ISCTE) and Ana Frade Silva (d.Health&Care FHVC and Adjunct Professor at NMS).
