Sócrates says that the Grupo Lena good deal was negotiated under the Passos Coelho government

José Sócrates, former Prime Minister of Portugal, gave testimony during the trial of Operation Marquês. In his testimony, he referred to the Grupo Lena agreement in Venezuela, which was considered a good deal.

According to Sócrates, this advantageous negotiation was conducted by Paulo Portas during Pedro Passos Coelho's government. The former Prime Minister thus tried to shift the responsibility for the Grupo Lena operation to the executive that followed his.

The Operation Marquês case investigates suspicions of corruption, tax fraud, and money laundering related to José Sócrates. Sócrates was Prime Minister between 2005 and 2011.

By linking the Grupo Lena agreement to the Passos Coelho government, Sócrates sought to distinguish his government management from that which he considered to have been responsible for the negotiation in question.

STF rejects action against INSS medical expertises by telemedicine and documentary analysis

The Supreme Federal Court rejected, by majority vote in a virtual session, a Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI 7949) that contested the performance of INSS medical expertises by telemedicine or documentary analysis through the Atestmed system. The action, presented by the National Association of Federal Medical Experts (ANMP), questioned the amendments to Laws 8.213/1991, 14.724/2023, and 15.265/2025 that allow the granting of benefits without an in-person examination. The entity argued that the change transformed the expert's work into simple verification of documents produced by the insured party. The STF considered the remote analysis of medical documentation for Social Security benefits purposes to be constitutional.
