All suspects of animal cruelty in illegal shelters in Santo Tirso were acquitted by the court. The case concerned suspicions of cruelty in shelters that operated illegally in the municipality.
The court did not consider it proven that the defendants had acted with the awareness that they were causing suffering and inflicting cruelty on the animals. This lack of proof regarding intent was decisive for the acquittal decision.
