Hate crimes and discrimination based on racism and sexual orientation soar 15.3% in one year

Hate crimes and discrimination based on racism and sexual orientation increased 15.3% in one year, according to the data from the Prosecutor's Office Report presented this Thursday. The investigations opened by the Public Prosecutor's Office for hate crimes and discrimination grew in 2025, compared to 2024.

This "substantial increase" was also recorded in the number of indictment documents, in which not only was the 40% growth from the previous year consolidated, but an additional 8.2% increase was recorded.

The main motives present in the documents are racism/xenophobia and sexual orientation, with a very significant growth in the former.
