The Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo proceeded with the delivery of four social housing units, of the T4 type, in Vila de São Mateus, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan – 1st Right. The work developed by the municipality is not limited to the rehabilitation of housing, but also includes the adaptation of housing types to the needs of households and the follow-up support for beneficiary families.
The Housing Access Support Program – 1st Right, established by Decree-Law No. 37/2018 of June 4, aims to support people living in undignified housing conditions who do not have the financial capacity to bear the cost of accessing adequate housing.
The Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo developed its Local Housing Strategy (ELH) based on a diagnosis of the housing needs of the municipality. The council has been dedicated to resolving undignified housing situations, rehabilitating the municipal housing stock, strengthening the response to situations of need, and enhancing housing and the urban environment.
Regarding the municipal housing stock, the rehabilitation of 449 municipal housing units and the construction of 40 new houses have been proposed, with an investment exceeding 60 million euros. The rehabilitation of housing belonging to the heritage of the Parish Councils is also planned, with an investment exceeding 1 million euros, and of privately owned housing, with an investment exceeding 24 million euros.
