Paris investigates local officials for inaction in combating sexual violence against children

dnoticias.pt10 September 2026 at 12:32

The Paris Prosecutor's Office announced the opening of investigations against the city's mayor and his predecessor, following complaints of inaction in combating sexual violence against children in school settings. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed to France Inter radio that the complaints were received and that the investigations were officially opened.

The investigations target Emmanuel Grégoire, current mayor of Paris, and Anne Hidalgo, his predecessor in the position. The prosecutor stated that there are several complaints from different sources that were gathered and that, for this reason, the investigation procedures were initiated.

The case arises in a context of growing concern in France about sexual violence against minors, particularly in the school environment, where multiple victims are said to have filed complaints that were allegedly not adequately handled by the municipal authorities.
