The Organic Law establishing the tenth amendment to the Electoral Law for the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores was published today in the Official Gazette. This amendment aims at two main objectives: reinforcing parity in electoral lists and introducing Braille voting for Azores parliamentary elections.
The proposal was approved by the Assembly of the Republic on July 17, having been voted on in final global voting. The initiative passed with 214 votes in favor, representing an approval by majority.
The amendment to the Electoral Law for ALRAA determines that parity in lists be raised to 40%, thus increasing balanced representation between genders in elected bodies.
At the same time, the now published law introduces the right to vote in Braille, ensuring greater accessibility and inclusion for citizens with visual disabilities in elections for the Azores parliament.
