Braille voting has now been permitted in regional elections, in a measure that aims to facilitate the participation of citizens with visual disabilities. The initiative was approved by almost all parties in the legislative assembly.
The bill was presented by the Left Bloc party, which promoted this change to guarantee greater accessibility in the electoral process. The text was approved with the favorable vote of the majority of represented parties.
Only the Chega party did not vote in favor of the measure, abstaining from the vote. This position contrasts with the consensus reached among the remaining political forces.
With the approval of this initiative, polling station members will need to receive prior training to ensure they can properly assist voters who wish to use braille voting in regional elections.
