Ursula von der Leyen called at the International Space Summit, in Paris, for Europe to "act as one" in the space sector, advocating for the union between the Commission, the European Space Agency and national governments. The President of the European Commission revealed that the proposal for the next multiannual budget includes 131 billion euros for defense, security and space — five times more than current funding. Von der Leyen highlighted that the global space economy is expected to triple by 2035, rising from 630 billion to 1.8 trillion dollars, and defended that Europe must maintain its strong position through joint investment, cutting-edge technologies and a solid industrial base. Among the initiatives mentioned are the Cassini mechanism, which mobilizes 2 billion euros in venture capital for European space companies, and the Scaleup Europe Fund, of 5 billion euros for strategic technologies. The official also highlighted the importance of the IRIS 2 constellation, a project of more than 10 billion euros that will be reinforced with 66 more satellites, raising the constellation to more than 350 satellites.
