This is how a Madrid-based company managed to get a Formula 1 car running on the Metro tracks: "The project was a bit of a crazy idea"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General10 September 2026 at 12:45

A company based in Madrid managed to get a Formula 1 car running on the city's Metro tracks. The project was described as "a bit crazy" by those in charge.

Metro trains have no steering wheel, gear shift, or clutch. They also don't have a motor with more than 750 horsepower capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.6 seconds, generating a force 1.5 times that of gravity.

What fundamentally distinguishes Formula 1 is the four rubber tires designed to grip asphalt on straights and curves at speeds close to 300 km/h. They are vehicles designed to compete in extreme conditions, but very different from underground tracks.

The article highlights the contrast between these two worlds: the controlled and underground environment of the Metro versus high-performance motorsport, which requires completely different conditions to function properly.
