Brussels will present in early 2027 a "comprehensive package" of legislative measures to strengthen the European Union's banking sector. The announcement was made by the European Commission, which revealed it is working on this initiative to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of the sector.
The future legislative package will be based on a previous report by the institution on banking sector competitiveness and the banking single market. This report was presented in July last year and served as a diagnosis for the measures that are now being prepared.
The July report identified three major challenges for the European banking sector. Although the specific details of the challenges are not mentioned in the article, the document served as a fundamental reference for the development of the package of measures that will be proposed in early 2027.
The European Commission thus intends to address the weaknesses identified in the sector, promoting greater integration of the banking single market and ensuring that European banks remain competitive in an ever-changing global financial environment.
