Suspected serial killer to be executed today in Florida

extra10 September 2026 at 11:14

Daniel Owen Conahan Jr., 72 years old, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection this Thursday at 7 p.m. (Brasília time) in the state of Florida, in the United States. He was sentenced to death for the kidnapping and strangulation of Richard Allen Montgomery in 1996, whose mutilated body was found in a wooded area in southwest Florida.

Investigators believe Conahan is a serial killer responsible for the death of at least six more people. Remains were found over three years at the same location where Montgomery's body was discovered. Daniel is known as the "Hog Trail Killer," but has never been indicted for the other murders.

Conahan's lawyers are attempting a last appeal in the United States Supreme Court to stop the execution. The convict has always claimed innocence, including in the case of Richard Allen Montgomery, stating that all evidence presented against him is circumstantial.

Conahan was arrested in July 1996, after local and state police spent more than two years investigating the case. The execution is scheduled for this Thursday, despite the defense's legal appeals.
