Luís Pedro Sousa draws a line under a Benfica player: "Opportunities are over"

Glorioso 1904 – Se é notícia do Benfica, está aqui10 September 2026 at 12:00

Benfica's thrashing against Moreirense dictated a significant change in Marco Silva's starting eleven. The Benfica coach left Georgiy Sudakov on the bench and opted to give more minutes to Gianluca Prestianni and Andreas Schjelderup. The bet paid off, with both players presenting a great level performance that resulted in important contributions to the victory.

Prestianni played more centrally on the pitch, while Schjelderup took the left side of the attack. This solution did not appear for the first time in this match, as Marco Silva had already started testing this duo in the game against Marítimo.

Commentator Luís Pedro Sousa wrote in newspaper Record that Sudakov's opportunities should now be over. According to Sousa, the Ukrainian player cannot complain, as he had opportunities more than enough to prove his worth.

The performance of the Prestianni-Schjelderup duo left good indications for the future and could mean the definitive goodbye of Sudakov from the starting lineup at Benfica.
