Rents may rise up to 2.56% in 2027. INE confirms inflation data used as reference

SAPO Notícias10 September 2026 at 11:50

Rents in Portugal may rise up to 2.56% in 2027, according to the most recent inflation data. Statistics Portugal (INE) confirmed the values that serve as reference for the annual rent update in the country.

The base value for this calculation results from the average variation of the consumer price index, excluding housing, over the last 12 months until August. This rate of 2.56% will be the coefficient applied to rents in the coming year.

The annual rent update mechanism in Portugal is directly linked to inflation trends. The coefficient determined based on this data defines the maximum percentage by which landlords may increase rents for their tenants.

This adjustment reflects the goal of protecting purchasing power while allowing a moderate update of rents according to the country's economic situation.
