Samsung and Motorola took advantage of the iPhone Duo launch this Wednesday to tease Apple on social media. Samsung reacted quickly, reminding that it has been operating in the foldable smartphone market for years and highlighting the reduced thickness of its devices. The message was clear: Apple has finally arrived at a category that the South Korean rival helped build over several generations.
Samsung presented direct comparisons between its devices and the new iPhone. The Z Fold 8 weighs 201 grams, less than the Duo's 254 grams. The Korean model's thickness is 9.7 millimeters when closed, compared to Apple's 11.3 millimeters. When open, the thickness is 4.5 millimeters, while the Duo measures 5.2 millimeters.
Motorola also joined the dispute. In a post on Instagram, the company referenced the concept of "legacy," in an allusion to the brand's history with foldable phones. The launch of Apple's first foldable generated this competitive movement among competitors who have been operating in this market for longer.
