The renovation works for the Algueirão-Mem Martins railway station, in the municipality of Sintra, are expected to start next year. The confirmation was given by the president of Sintra Municipal Council, Marco Almeida, in statements to radio TSF, indicating that the interventions should be completed by 2030.
The population and the parish have been demanding, for several years, the renovation of this station, whose current configuration is frequently compared to that of a halt. Infraestruturas de Portugal has carried out studies and developed a renovation project, but the interventions never moved forward due to lack of investment. According to Marco Almeida, the station "is a halt due to the conditions it has, it doesn't even have station status".
Marco Almeida also confirmed the holding of several meetings with the Ministry of Infrastructure to move forward with the renovation works. Minister Miguel Pinto Luz is said to have told Infraestruturas de Portugal that the reformulation of the halt into a station had to be urgent.
During 2027, the station should receive a first intervention, which includes the installation of coverings and the painting of the facilities. The objective, according to the mayor, is "to give more dignity and more comfort to the users who use that station", with Marco Almeida convinced that by 2030 the station will be completely renovated.
