Pestana Hotel Group officially began construction of Pestana Porto Covo Beach Residences, a tourist development with 236 apartments next to Praia Grande, in Porto Covo, in the municipality of Sines. The first stone was laid on Tuesday, 8 September, at a ceremony attended by Dionísio Pestana, president of the group, José Roquette, Chief Development Officer, and Álvaro Beijinha, mayor of Sines. The project, developed through Pestana Residences, begins with approximately 70% of the units already sold, mostly to national owners.
The new complex will be built on a plot of approximately eight hectares, with the construction area occupying approximately 57% of the space, the remaining area being designated for green and outdoor spaces. The 236 tourist apartments include private pools and will be integrated into a condominium with services and common areas, featuring a restaurant, gym, common indoor pool, gardens, leisure spaces and lounge areas.
Construction is being carried out by Carvoeiro Construções, a company belonging to Pestana Hotel Group, while the architectural design is by the team led by architect Gonçalo Salazar de Sousa. The project was approved by the Portuguese Environment Agency and reviewed by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, with the planned volume sitting approximately 40% below the maximum limit allowed by the Porto Covo Urbanisation Plan.
The overall investment value was not disclosed by the group. Pestana Hotel Group will be responsible for the tourist operation of the entire complex and for condominium management, thus reinforcing its presence on the Costa Alentejana, where it has already developed Porto Covo Village.
