Environmental preservation is presented as a responsibility that also falls on technology. The article addresses the role that artificial intelligence can play in the environmental transition.
The opinion defended is that AI should not be simply classified as positive or negative for the environment. Instead, it is necessary to evaluate each application individually.
The proposed criterion for this evaluation is to compare the environmental benefits of each application with the resources that the technology consumes. Only when the benefit outweighs the consumption of resources would the use of AI be justified from an environmental point of view.
The article is an opinion by Leonor David on this topic.
