The president of the Municipal Chamber of Gaia, Luís Filipe Menezes, announced through the official social media of the municipality the intention to eliminate the toll gantry in Gulpilhares, on the A29. This is described as an old claim of the municipality, which affects thousands of people daily who live, work and travel in the municipality.
The mayor considers this situation a territorial injustice, arguing that the gantry creates inequality among citizens of the same municipality who use the same structural road. Menezes mentions that many drivers are led to seek alternative routes through the urban road network, which worsens traffic and congestion in the area.
The municipality stated that the proposal will be presented to the Central Administration, appealing for support from political forces represented in the Assembly of the Republic so that this measure can advance in the next State Budget.
