Residents of Rocinha, a community located in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, will be able to compete for funds to transform ideas into community-based tourism experiences. The Rocinha Mundo Afora project opened registrations for the Experiências de Cria contest, which will select five initiatives created and executed by residents in the areas of culture, gastronomy, art, music, ecotourism, and creative economy.

The initiative is promoted by Embratur in partnership with the NGO Cieds. The objective is to stimulate local entrepreneurship and income generation through experiences that value the identity and knowledge of Rocinha.

Each of the five chosen projects will receive R$ 5 thousand to put the proposal into practice, totaling up to R$ 25 thousand in prizes. In addition to the financial investment, the selected participants will take part in a specialized mentorship cycle to develop their initiatives.

Idle savings cost Portuguese families hundreds of euros per year, says Revolut

A Revolut study reveals that Portuguese families hold 89.1 billion euros in current account deposits, losing approximately 706 euros annually for every 10,000 euros in potential earnings by not investing in diversified markets. The institution warns that, with one-year deposit rates around 2% and inflation at 2.2%, idle money loses real purchasing power, and that mobilizing these savings for investments could generate 6.3 billion euros in annual growth capital. The study, which surveyed 1,000 adults in Portugal, identifies inertia, lack of financial literacy, and fragmentation of financial services as the main barriers to investment, with 44% of respondents unable to correctly assess the relationship between returns and inflation. The European Commission, represented by Maria Luís Albuquerque, has defended that keeping money in the bank results in losses, echoing the conclusions of the European Wealth Erosion Index.
