Former Prime Minister José Sócrates arrived at the Justice Campus in Lisbon to make statements during a new session of the Operation Marquês trial. The politician made a brief statement upon arrival, stating that he had come to defend himself.
Sócrates is a defendant in the Operation Marquês case, which investigates alleged crimes of corruption, tax fraud and money laundering. The trial has been ongoing for some time and involves several interrogation sessions of the former socialist leader.
The Justice Campus, located in Lisbon, is the venue for the hearings of this case that has attracted great media attention in Portugal. Sócrates, who was prime minister between 2005 and 2011, denies all the charges against him.
