Gabriel Lopes, swimmer from Lousa at Associação Louzan Natação, went through a "period of mourning" after not achieving qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The athlete acknowledged that working so hard for a goal and not achieving it "always hurts", having felt the need to process that phase of his career.
After this period of reflection, Gabriel Lopes returned to competition this season and managed to climb back onto the podium, winning medals at the Mediterranean Games. This achievement represents a positive return to elite swimming after the disappointment of the previous year.
Currently, the swimmer is preparing for his professional future outside the pool, although he continues not to rule out a new Olympic challenge. This duality between preparing for life after sport and the possibility of a new attempt at participation in the Games marks the current phase of the athlete's career.
