Former Prime Minister José Sócrates arrived at court to defend himself. It was Sócrates himself who requested to be heard, demonstrating personal initiative in this process.
This was not the first time Sócrates appeared before the justice system. The former prime minister had already responded to almost a dozen sessions within the scope of Operation Marquês, indicating a lengthy and complex process.
The decision to request to be heard shows that Sócrates intends to present his version of the facts proactively, rather than merely awaiting the investigators' questions.
