The conflict between the Spanish Government and the Supreme Court intensified this week following a decision against the grandchildren's law, which supposedly affects fundamental rights. This decision represents a new blow to the Executive, which had already been dragging on a confrontation with the high court since the approval of the amnesty law.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez publicly criticized the ruling, while the Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, expressed his disagreements and called for a definitive resolution as soon as possible.
The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, went further by suggesting that the Supreme Court would be adopting the theses of the right and the far-right regarding the supposed intention of this norm to interfere in the census.
This confrontation arises before the opening of the judicial year, in a context of growing institutional tension between the executive power and the judicial power in Spain.
