10,000 AI agents solve one of the most difficult mathematical problems in 88 hours

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General10 September 2026 at 08:40

The company OpenAI announced that an internal model, supported by approximately 10,000 artificial intelligence agents, managed to solve the Navier-Stokes problem in just 88 hours. This problem is considered one of the great open enigmas of mathematics and is part of the so-called "millennium problems," a set of seven mathematical questions whose resolution was proposed by the Clay Foundation in the year 2000.

The result obtained by OpenAI represents a potential milestone in the application of artificial intelligence to advanced mathematical research. The company used a massively parallel approach, mobilizing thousands of AI agents that worked together to address the complexity of the problem.

However, the result cannot yet be considered a confirmed solution. The discovery must undergo a rigorous process of independent scientific review before it can be validated by the international mathematical community. This step is fundamental to verify the correctness and robustness of the approach proposed by OpenAI.
