Wife of Nicolás Maduro asks for house arrest

Observador10 September 2026 at 08:38

Cília Flores, aged 69 and wife of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, asked the United States justice system to serve her sentence under house arrest. She claims to need complex cardiac treatment that cannot be carried out under the current detention conditions.

Flores's defense requested that she be transferred to a private residence in New York, where she would serve her sentence wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Cília Flores was detained in the United States as part of a legal proceeding related to her husband. The decision on the house arrest request is still pending.

Goodbye driving licence? If the document does not meet this requirement you may lose the right to drive

A driving licence within its validity period can still be seized by authorities if it is in a state of conservation that makes any indication or endorsement illegible, as provided for in Article 159 of the Portuguese Highway Code. A simple scratch or sign of use is not enough if the information remains legible, but a broken, heavily degraded or moisture-damaged licence can trigger preventive seizure. This situation is not equivalent to revocation of the title — the driver receives a provisional driving permit while the document is replaced. Anyone with a damaged licence can request replacement through IMTOnline, at a Citizen's Space or at a counter of the Institute of Mobility and Transport, and should do so before facing an inspection.
