President of the United States Donald Trump spoke on Wednesday at the Republican convention in Dallas, asking the euphoric voters to let him "finish the job" and vote for Republican candidates in the November midterm elections. In a nearly two-hour speech, Trump asked supporters to "pretend" his name will be on the ballot, warning that if Republicans lose, voters will "go through hell."
Trump launched the promise to send $5,000 (approximately 4,300 euros) to each citizen, if Republicans maintain their majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, a measure he called the "Trump dividend." The President spoke extensively about issues such as border control, tax cuts, the high cost of living, and the war with Iran, calling the word "tariff" his favorite.
Trump's advisors' strategy aims to mobilize a segment of the Republican electorate with low voter turnout propensity. However, many Republican candidates chose not to attend the event, at a time when the President's popularity is declining and voters are expressing widespread concerns about the cost of living.
The midterm elections on November 3rd will renew the entirety of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate. Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in Congress, and if Democrats regain control of one chamber, they will have the power to block Trump's agenda and launch investigations into his Administration.
