"It is not easy at all to find shelter here" - the lack of accommodation is the biggest obstacle for international students

Otávio César, a 43-year-old university professor from Cabinda, Angola, decided to pursue a doctorate in Management at the University of Évora. Upon arriving in Portugal, he faced several difficulties inherent to moving to another country, from regularizing his documentary status to searching for accommodation.

To deal with the demands of documentary regularization with AIMA, Otávio found at the Local Center for Support to Migrant Integration (CLAIM), recently inaugurated, the necessary guidance to fulfill the legal procedures for staying in the country.

Despite the support received in documentary regularization, the lack of accommodation represents the biggest obstacle for international students, a difficulty widely shared by other students who come to Portugal to study.

The phrase "it is not easy at all to find shelter here," which serves as the article's title, synthesizes the main complaint of international students, showing that, even after overcoming bureaucratic barriers, the search for housing continues to be a significant challenge.
