Are there errors in your Social Security contributions? Learn how to correct your contribution history before retirement (and avoid 'cuts')

The article explains how workers in Portugal can verify and correct errors in their contribution history with Social Security, avoiding problems at the time of retirement. The contribution history statement can be consulted free of charge on the Social Security Portal, where it is possible to identify missing months, incorrect amounts or unregistered work periods. If errors are found, the revision request can be made online through the portal or the mobile application, and should include supporting documents such as pay slips or contracts. When the error was made by the employer, the correction can be made in the following month's declaration or through an autonomous declaration. The article warns that gaps in the contribution history can reduce the value of the old-age pension, make it difficult to prove years of contributions or delay the decision on retirement, so it is advisable to regularly check the records.
