Former prime minister José Sócrates returns to court this morning where the Operation Marquês trial is taking place. This appearance marks the politician's return to the judicial process after a period of absence.
The return happens exactly one year after Sócrates requested a ten-day recess in the trial. That request was made so the former leader could prepare to speak about the charges brought against him.
The charges in question refer to the period from 2011 onwards, covering presumed acts committed after his departure from the office of prime minister. Sócrates will now have to provide statements on these matters in court.
