The Southern Central Administrative Court sentenced the Lisbon City Council to pay a fine of 463,700 euros for violation of personal data in the Russiagate case, related to the sending of personal data of anti-Putin activists to Russian entities.
The fine value suffered a significant reduction compared to the initial sentence of 1.25 million euros. The mayor, Carlos Moedas, appealed the first conviction, which led to this decrease in the amount to be paid.
The value now determined results from a deduction of approximately 274 thousand euros, corresponding to 42 infractions that expired during the judicial process.
The case is related to the sending of emails between 2013 and 2021, period when the Socialist Party was presiding over the Lisbon City Council. The situation became controversial during Fernando Medina's term, when the data of anti-Putin activists was sent to Russian organisms, including the Russian Embassy in Lisbon.
