Caracas expects to recover "part" of the airport in the first half of 2027

RTP Notícias10 September 2026 at 06:40

Venezuela announced that it expects to recover "part" of the structural damage to the main airport serving Caracas by the first half of 2027. The airport was severely affected by a double earthquake that occurred on June 24.

The damage caused by the seismic event was significant, affecting the main structure of Simón Bolívar Maiquetía International Airport, which serves the Venezuelan capital.

The Venezuelan government presented on Wednesday a recovery plan that includes the partial repair of the damaged facilities. The forecast for completion in the first half of 2027 indicates that the rehabilitation works will extend for several years.

This announcement comes after the technical assessment of the damage caused by the earthquake, which forced the temporary closure of parts of the airport and the interruption of several international air routes.
