Shirley de Figueiredo Ângelo was arrested on Tuesday by officers from the 28th Police Station (Praça Seca) on President Dutra Highway, in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense. She is identified by police as the treasurer of the criminal structure linked to Luiz Fernando da Costa, known as Fernandinho Beira-Mar, and had a preventive detention order issued by the Federal Court.
Shirley is the comadre (godmother/friend) of Fernandinho Beira-Mar, a trafficker currently imprisoned at the Federal Penitentiary of Catanduvas, in Paraná, in a Disciplinary Differential Regime (RDD). Sentenced to more than 300 years in prison, Beira-Mar has been in custody for more than 20 years.
The suspect has been targeted by police for more than two decades for her involvement with drug trafficking. After Beira-Mar's arrest in Colombia in 2001, she was identified by police as one of those responsible for managing the finances of the criminal organization linked to the trafficker.
