Suspects in assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate to be extradited to the US

Two Ecuadorian suspects — former police officer Daniel Salcedo and a former intelligence agent identified as R.P.H.R. — will be extradited to the United States for allegedly being involved in the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, who was shot dead in August 2023 after leaving a campaign rally in Quito. Villavicencio was assassinated by a Colombian hitman one week before the early elections, and five people have already been sentenced to up to 34 years in prison for the crime.
