UNICEF warned that girls face a greater risk of dropping out of school when their educational institutions are hit by heat waves, storms, or wildfires linked to climate change. The UN agency for childhood issued the warning on Thursday, Wednesday night in Brazil.

According to an analysis by UNICEF, one in ten students, or more than 171 million students in 106 countries and territories, had their education disrupted last year due to extreme climate events. The agency stated that girls are the most affected when schools are damaged, classes are canceled, or teaching moves online.
