Justice in Rio converted to preventive the arrest of Natalia Mafra Tupinambá, 39 years old, suspected of stabbing her own mother, Graça Maria Caldas Mafra, 73 years old, to death in an apartment in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of the city. The elderly woman was taken to Hospital Municipal Lourenço Jorge, in Barra da Tijuca, but did not survive her injuries.
The Military Police were called by residents of the condominium on the morning of the 7th, shortly before 10 a.m., after neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the apartment. At the scene, the officers found Graça covered in blood and with stab wounds. According to the arrest report, Natalia admitted to having stabbed her mother and showed the knife used in the crime, which was seized by the officers.
When heard at the Capital Homicide Division, where she was formally charged with homicide, Natalia informed the police, according to authorities, that she had previously been hospitalized for psychiatric problems. The daughter was arrested on Monday morning and Justice converted her arrest into preventive detention.
