A 69-year-old man died last Wednesday in Jugueiros, Felgueiras, after being stung by an Asian wasp during a grape harvest. The alert was given at 2:39 PM and the Felgueiras Volunteer Firefighters went to the scene, where they found the victim in cardiorespiratory arrest.
The operatives tried to resuscitate the man, but he ended up dying at the scene. The man was reportedly stung on the head while harvesting grapes next to a wall. The victim's body was later taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Guimarães.
The Felgueiras PSP police took charge of the incident and is investigating the case. The Asian wasp, native to Asia, has been spreading across Portugal and is known for its painful and potentially dangerous stings, especially for people who are allergic.
