The meeting took place at Quinta Vigia, headquarters of the Regional Government of Madeira, and was attended by the United States Ambassador to Portugal, John J. Arrigo, and the President of the Regional Government. The meeting focused on strengthening economic relations between the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the United States, particularly regarding air connectivity.
The Autonomous Region aims to establish a second direct air link to the United States, with Miami being the considered destination for this new route. Currently, Madeira already has a direct air link to the USA, and this initiative aims to expand that connectivity.
During the meeting, Ambassador John J. Arrigo expressed his enthusiasm for Madeira, stating that "more Americans need to come and discover Madeira" and describing the region as "extraordinary," thus demonstrating openness to support the strengthening of relations between both parties.
