New CNH rules generate R$ 9.6 billion in savings for drivers in eight months, government says

The new rules for the National Driver's License (CNH), which took effect this year, generated savings of R$ 9.64 billion for Brazilian drivers in just eight months of implementation, according to data from the Ministry of Transportation shared in advance with the newspaper O Globo.

The Minister of Transportation, George Santoro, stated that the amount represents a true microeconomic reform, equivalent to half the impact of income tax relief for those earning up to R$ 5,000. According to him, the numbers are still being consolidated, but the growth in issued licenses is already considered enormous.

Santoro highlighted that the measure improved people's income and expanded formalization in the country. The complete impact report is expected to be announced by the minister on Thursday.

The data collected by the ministry shows that the free theoretical course alone generated direct savings of R$ 2.94 billion for drivers. Practical training also contributes to the total figures for expense reductions.
